We are pleased to announce the election of Dr Domenica Taruscio as the Chair of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Committee (ISC) and of Dr Dixie Baker as the Vice-Chair of the ISC.
Domenica Taruscio, MD, is the Director of the National Center for Rare Diseases at the Italian National Institute of Health (Rome, Italy). She is an important contributor to the development of the European scientific and institutional framework on rare diseases and orphan medicinal products. Dr Taruscio is involved in many EU projects on rare diseases: as a scientific coordinator of NEPHIRD, EUROPLAN, EPIRARE, as a Work Package leader on EUROCAT Joint Action and RD-Action and participates in the Endo-ERN and EuRRECa (European Registries for Rare Endocrine Conditions) projects, among others. She also serves on the advisory board of EuroGentest, EUROlinkCat and Solve-RD. Dr Taruscio is a member of the ISC since February 2012 and was elected ISC Vice-Chair in February 2017.
Dr Dixie Baker is a Senior Partner at the healthcare consulting firm Martin, Blanck and Associates, where she provides consulting services in the areas of health information technology (HIT), privacy and security technology, and the sharing and protection of genomic and clinical data. She also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA) and on the Institutional Review Board of Genetic Alliance. In 2017, Health Data Management recognized Dr Baker for her thought leadership by naming her one of the Most Powerful Women in Health Information Technology. Dr Baker is a Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Dr Baker has previously worked with IRDiRC, as an invited expert for the Privacy-Preserving Record Linkage Task Force and joined the ISC in April 2018.
Both Dr Domenica Taruscio and Dr Dixie Baker look forward to working together on current ISC activities, such as data sharing, clinical research networks, real world evidence collection, the impact of diagnostics and therapies, and other related topics.
