From April 3, 2016 till April 7, 2016, the 13th edition of the International Congress of Human Genetics (ICHG2016) will take place in Kyoto, Japan. The ICHG meeting has been held every 5 years since 1956, starting from Copenhagen, Denmark, and will be organized for the first time in Asia. ICHG2016 will be an exciting opportunity to share latest development in human genetics and discuss the future of human genetics.
IRDiRC, together with the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), will organize a Special Focus Session, entitled “IRDiRC, GA4GH and Matchmaker Exchange” on April 6, 2016. The session, moderator by Professor Paul Lasko, former chair of the IRDiRC Executive Committee, and Peter Goodhand, Executive Director of GA4GH, is divided in three parts. Firstly, IRDiRC will present a progress report, presenting the advances that have been made in the last 5 years. Thereafter, an update is given about rare diseases in Japan, followed by an update on orphan drug development and patient engagement in rare diseases. In the second part, two successful collaborative Task Forces from IRDiRC and GA4GH are highlighted, Matchmaker Exchange and Automatable Discovery and Access. The third part is focused on the GA4GH Working Groups, on developing tools and solutions for data sharing, and the session is finished with a number of GA4GH Demonstration Projects.
