On May 14-16, 2018 IRDiRC Consortium Assembly and Scientific Committee members convened in Vienna, Austria to report on activities carried out by IRDiRC Committees and Task Forces in recent months, exchange on the progresses made by member organizations that contribute towards IRDiRC’s Vision, and identify strategic actions for the Scientific and Constituent Committees – all with the IRDiRC Goals for 2017-2027 in mind.
In particular, two activities were approved to by the Consortium Assembly for immediate start:
- The first initiative, led by the Funders Constituent Committee, aims to globally coordinate research funding to maximize the impact and coverage of rare disease research on the field. Through the development of a real-time tracking database that will consolidate past, future and potentially upcoming funding opportunities, IRDiRC will empower its members to align funding actions, strategically determine areas of focus and undertake joint funding initiatives.
- The second project, led by the Therapies Scientific Committee, aims to create a guidebook for academic and industry drug developers that delineates and describes available tools and initiatives specific for rare diseases therapies development and their optimal applications, thus to spur advancement in generating novel orphan medicinal products.
